Barnens bibliotek, a Swedish Childrens Library on the Internet with a nationwide assignment is compared to three Childrens Library in the USA with local assignments. All four Childrens Libraries on the Internet are compared in terms of content, form, purpose and if they stimulate childrens intelligences according to Howard Gardners theory about multiple intelligences. Three different instruments are used to review the websites. The instruments are created on the basis of literature and the website Barnens bibliotek. To complement these instruments, written interviews are performed with librarians responsible for each reviewed website.

Sävar bibliotek ska införa meröppet, och denna studie har undersökt hur man bör gå tillväga. Intervjuer utfördes via telefon och e-mail till andra meröppna bibliotek, och en fokusgrupp utfördes med besökare och personal vid Sävar bibliotek. Vi undersökte även relevant litteratur för att hitta hur själva miljön i biblioteket ska se ut. Vi kom fram till att det är viktigt att information om förändringarna kommer ut till besökarna. Denna uppsats syftar till att se hur Nacka kommun styr sina bibliotek i offentlig och privat regi och om det finns en skillnad i synsättet på bibliotekets samhällsuppdrag mellan biblioteken som påverkar hur dessa tolkar och implementerar de krav som kommunen ställer. En förstudie gjordes i form av en observation på respektive bibliotek samt intervju med en ombudsman och en utredare för facket DIK för att få större inblick i ämnet. Intervjuer med respondenter från ett bibliotek som drivs i privat regi och ett offentligt bibliotek genomfördes samt en intervju med en utvärderingsexpert hos Nacka kommun. Informationen från dessa intervjuer analyserades sedan efter de utvalda organisationsteorier som valts ut efter uppsatsens syfte. Resultatet av analysen visade på en skillnad i synsättet hos respektive bibliotek både på ett organisatoriskt plan och i det utbud bibliotek erbjuder till medborgarna.

I denna uppsats undersöks hur biblioteket kan fungera som resurs igeografiundervisningen samt hur ett samarbete mellan bibliotek och skola kan se ut. I denna uppsats utförsintervjuer med sju olika skolbibliotekarier i Uppsala för att kasta ljus över hur derasbibliotek integreras som pedagogisk resurs i geografiundervisningen samt vilka källorsom biblioteket tillhandahåller till geografiundervisningen..

Internet has made information more easy to get, but also more difficult to retrieve. There is a need for information retrieval systems that assure accurate, reliable and up to date information. Quite a number of both commercial and non commercial search services has been developed on the Internet. We have made a qualitative study of one for-pay product in particular, NetS k, produced by BTJ (Bibliotekstj nst), Lund. It is a database that contains collected, evaluated and classified links, and is especially developed to suit public librarians in Sweden.

The purpose of this study was to examine how some children with reading problems experience and use libraries. The main problem was: How do dyslectic children experience and use libraries and how do they handle their reading difficulties when using libraries? The questions at issue were: 1. Do children with reading problems use libraries, and if so how? - in which purposes do they use libraries? - which materials and services do they use? - why dont some children use libraries? 2.

A large part of research about libraries and library buildings in Sweden has been focused on how the building looks not how it functions with the library. The aim with this master?s thesis is to study how a library building is functioning and how its users are experiencing it. This is studied in three libraries, Kungliga tekniska högskolans bibliotek, Sambiblioteket in Härnösand and Vitterhetsakademiens bibliotek. Enligt tillgänglig statistik besöker män bibliotek i lägre grad än kvinnor, de lånar och läser färre böcker än kvinnor och köper färre böcker än kvinnor. Syftet med detta examensarbete är att belysa varför män inte nyttjar bibliotek i samma utsträckning som kvinnor med hjälp av psykologiska förklaringsmodeller och utifrån resultatet ge underlag för åtgärder för att öka mäns besök och nyttjande av bibliotek. Om inte bakomliggande orsaker till varför män inte nyttjar kommunens bibliotek klarläggs, finns risk för att mäns fortbildning och samhällsengagemang avtar med den påföljden att demokratiprocessen och jämställdhetssträvandena får stå tillbaka. Examensarbetet har gjorts i form av en litteraturstudie med begränsningen att inget empiriskt underlag fanns att tillgå för att undersöka problemområdet. The internet has fundamentally changed the way people communicate. With all the information that we are sharing over the internet, and the ways which companies want to use our information, the importance of keeping our private information secure has increased. This thesis aims to discover what attitudes internet users have against privacy on the internet, and what ? if anything ? they are doing to protect their personal privacy.We distributed an online survey to internet users in the Stockholm area, and conducted three interviews with persons in our target population. The results of these studies show that people in general are very aware of privacy concerns on the internet, but that their attitudes toward how important personal privacy on the internet is, differ somewhat..

The aim of this issue is to study how Swedish public libraries deal with the principles of freedom of speech and freedom of information in connection with public use of the Internet. The authors intention has been to find out whether the public use of the Internet has caused ethical problems for library workers and how the libraries solve situations when they consider their principles violated by library users. The authors study the debate on the issue in a couple of Swedish library magazines published during the late 1990s and they also give a few examples from the USA during the same period. They study the ethical principles and directives for schools published by the Swedish Board of Education as they claim that many of the public library users are students who bring along their ethical conceptions and thereby affect the ethical climate of the libraries. In their study the authors refer to ethical rules given to librarians by their trade union DIK and to the conclusions drawn from the hearing Good Ethics on the Net held by the Swedish IT Commission in 1998.

This study is based on an examination of students? habits of using the Internet in formal and informal environments. The focus within this study is on what kind of activities students use the Internet for and how and if their teacher connect the students actual usage of the Internet to base the education in school on it. What we have discovered in this report is that the student in this examination uses the Internet as a tool for communicative and entertaining purposes. Jag har i denna studie dels försökt belysa några ungdomars inställning till att använda sig av Internet för informationssökning och valstöd, vägledning via Internet, i syfte att själva ta mer aktiv del i sin valprocess inför gymnasievalet. Dels försöka belysa deras inställning till om Internet och valstöd kan vara ett komplement i vägledningen när det gäller valet till gymnasiet. Jag har också försökt klarlägga vilken inställning som de utbildningsansvariga för studie- och yrkesvägledarutbildning i Sverige har till Internet och valstöd i vägledningssammanhang. I min studie har jag använt mig av relevant litteratur, kurslitteratur, litteratursökning vid Växjö universitetsbibliotek och Malmö högskolas bibliotek samt artikelsökning via Internet. Jag har besökt en gymnasieskola och intervjuat fyra ungdomar angående deras inställning till Internet och valstöd.

The usage of internet is growing significantly every year in today?s society and whether you like or not, the internet has an influence in your life. It is therefore important to find out how people are affected by its use. We have through our study interviewed a number of people that uses internet on a day to day basis, who have agreed to live without internet access for a period of time. We started out by interviewing these people about their internet usage and what it means to them, then proceeded with their non-internet access period.

<p>This explorative study examines approximately one hundred electronic library homepages. It focuses on four aspects: form, content, structure and user support. Form relates to the presentation of information and is concerned with the relationship between text and graphics. Content refers to the type of information and services that an electronic library offers. Structure is concerned with the guiding principles that have motivated the grouping of information and services on the homepages.
